Safe to School - Safe to Home in Viet Nam

On 18 November the GRSP Viet Nam team, together with partners from the Bac Ninh Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, undertook a monitoring visit to two target schools involved in Safe to School – Safe to Home implementations in the province as part of the Global Road Safety Initiative, supported by Shell, Total and Toyota.

The monitoring team found that significant improvements in road safety education and low-cost infrastructure improvements around the school gates had been achieved by the local implementers.

Building capacity in Africa through '4th GRSP Africa Road Safety' event

Africa Road Safety 2015 - Bridging the Road Safety Gap marked our 4th African event and was held in Lusaka, Zambia on September 2 and 3, 2015. The event put the focus on some of the serious gaps in road safety management in countries across the African continent, particularly in the sub-Saharan region.

The event welcomed just on 100 road safety experts, practitioners, representatives from local businesses and NGOs, journalists and senior government officials from all over the region and the world for a programme of informative presentations and participatory capacity building workshops.

On September 2 Africa Road Safety 2015 gets underway in Lusaka, Zambia.

Road safety is a critical issue in Africa that requires immediate attention. While the African Region possesses only 2% of the world’s vehicles, it accounts for 16% of global road deaths; this is 24.1 deaths per 100,000 population, well above the global average (WHO, 2013).
